Memorial Day

Ed hung his Wisconsin flag for Memorial Day.  He's had this thing for decades and finally put it to good use.

At a party

The next door neighbor has a gospel jam session every year and invited us.  Our grandkids had fun in a pile of sand and we met Sue from Singapore who fell in love with our grandson, Carson.  Sue and her husband Desmond had been visiting in the U.S. for 3 weeks and were going back to Singapore the next day.

Wildlife on the lake

Lots of wildlife on the lake.  This little turtle was crawling around on our back porch and the thistle sock attracts yellow finches-you can see a male and female on the sock in this picture

Lilacs

This photo shows the beautiful lilac bushes that are more like trees in our yard.

Garden update and Apple tree

Garden is doing great with spinach almost ready to pick.  That gallon jug hanging from the apple tree is suppose to catch all the moths that cause worms to hatch in your apples.  You take 1/2 cup of vinegar, 1/2 cup of sugar, a banana peel and fill with water and hang from tree.  It is filled with bugs and will let you know if the apples are worm free.

Inaugural Campfire

We had our inaugural campfire last Saturday night.  A group of friends from church enjoyed the fire with us and we roasted wienies and marshmellows.

Big Catch

Our daugter-in-law caught a 4 lb catfish off the pier.  We haven't fished out of the boat for awhile since fishing has been good right off the pie.  We have been catching crappies, walley, northern, and white bass.

garden status

The vegetable garden on May 18, 2008.  Asparagus, onions, beets, radish, lettuce, spinach and peas are up and running!

World's largest rocking chair

The rocking chair in this picture is the same one used by Lilly Thomlin on TV when she played a little girl.  It is located at Busy Bee Compost and pictured is Dorothy who sells compost, perenniels and raspberry bushes.  I bought 12 of the latter from her and planted them in my yard.  She spends all day outside working in her gardens.

First Lake Visitors

Ed's mom Carm, brother Bob and wife Linda enjoying looking at the lake on my newly refinished glider.

Ed's nephew's wedding-Jason

Ed's brother and wife Linda with us at the wedding of Jason to Anna in Milwaukee.

First Walleye

The same day we launched the boat, we went fishing and Ed caught a 16" walleye on the second cast.  Joy filleted it and saved it for Ed's mom who came up to visit the next day with Ed's brother and wife.  She loved it.

Boat in water

Finally the day arrived and we got the boat in the water.  Ed is a happy camper in this picture.

Free H2O

We have an awesome sprinkler system.  This is a photo of setting up the system to draw our water for the lawn and garden from the lake.  Nice!

Carson's 1st birthday

We celebrated our grandson, Carson's, first birthday at our house.  Pictured are son Bob, wife Jen, granchildren Maria, Ben and Carson.  Also grandpa Ed.  May 6, 2008

"new" glider

I love making something pretty out of something ugly!  The guy we bought this place from left an old glider here, I refinished it and turned out pretty good and works great.

Grandkids

We live near 3 of our 8 grandkids, those of our youngest son, Bob and wife, Jennifer.  Last Friday, the oldest one, Maria, brought her kids cookbook she received from Aunt Shawna for her birthday and we made the smoothie recipe.  Notice the chef's hat.  The same night we ate together and I made celery stuffed with peanut butter.  Noone noticed that Maria licked all the peanut butter off the celery and left the naked celery on the plate for someone else to enjoy!

The flag completed

Here is a picture of Ed's flag completed.  He is so proud of it and it gives him alot of pleasure just watching it flap in the wind.

Start of Garden

Today I planted most of the cool weather crops.  I finally got my soil report from the UW Extension and found out all I needed was some nitrogen.  They said to use plain lawn fertilizer with the highest nitrogen number. So spread it on and tilled it in with  the new rototiller my kids helped purchase for my birthday and mother's day.  Proceded to plant onions, beets, lettuce, spinach, carrots and radishes.  The asparagus is just starting to come up.

The flag

On Sunday, Ed and I went to the home show in Wausau, Wisconsin, held in the fieldhouse of the local high school.  Ed purchased a telescopic flagpole.  He says a person has to have a flag if you live on the lake.  Today he dug a 12"X 28"  hole, poured 20 lb of pea gravel in the bottom, then 180 lb of cement around the sleeve which will hole the flagpole in place.

Joy's tooth

Wed we were eating soup and crackers of all things and I felt something hard in my mouth.  Sure enough, about a quarter of a molar fell off!  Went to the dentist Thur and it was repairable with a new filling to the tune of $260!  Better than a crown at $1000, that's for sure.  In high school, in the 60's I was a dental asst for my step brother and he charged $3 for a filling.  What has happened?

Swinging

Ed and I had another milestone Wed.  We got our swing back together.  Luckily, Ed took a picture of it before we disassembled it in Colorado or we would've had a hard time.  Now we can sit, swing and watch the lake!
